The University of Queensland (UQ) Junior Hockey Club welcomes boys and girls between the ages of 5 and 17 of any skill level. Whether you're new to the game and haven't picked up a stick before, whether you've played at school or you're a representative player we welcome you to our club.

The University of Queensland Hockey Club is located at the University of Queensland St Lucia Campus Field 4. The UQ Junior Hockey Club is part of the overall UQ Hockey Club which consists of Men’s, Women’s, Masters and Junior hockey teams.

The UQ Hockey Club fielded a total of 36 teams in competitions during the 2017 season. Teams play in the Brisbane Hockey Association, Brisbane Women’s Hockey Association and Ipswich Hockey association competitions.

Junior Teams

For the coming 2018 season UQ Hockey Club will be fielding teams in the following age groups for both boys and girls:

Under 7 (boys and girls who are 5 or 6 as at the 1 st January 2018)

Under 9 (boys and girls who are 7 or 8 as at the 1 st January 2018)

Under 11 (boys and girls who are 9 or 10 as at the 1 st January 2018)

Under 13 (boys and girls who are 11 or 12 as at the 1 st January 2018)

J’s (boys and girls who are aged between 13 and 17 as at the 1 st January 2018)


Fees vary depending on the competition in which a player participates and is influenced by the requirement to cover turf hire, lights, umpires and officials and ground maintenance. Fees are payable to both the UQ Hockey Club and Hockey Queensland.

Wet Weather

Hockey is played in most weather conditions and is generally only cancelled when the grounds are considered dangerous for players or there is risk of damaging the surface. Any games Cancelled will be communicated to the club with as much notice as possible. Team manager’s will then ensure all players and families are advised. Alternatively live information is recorded on the Wet Weather Hockey Info line on 1900 962 018. Call cost is 66c per minute with higher cost to mobiles.
